Drives Me Batty

Know what drives me batty?

Well.  There's a long list of things that drive me crazy but this has to be at the top of the list.

How hard is it to scrap the peanut butter off the knife and back into the jar?

Seriously.

I guess I should be happy that Owen made his lunch.  (Gripping the whole time but he made it!)

I guess I should be happy that the knife made it into the sink.

Small miracles do happen!

But.  Really.

Is it THAT much more effort to scrap the peanut butter back into the jar?

I mean I'm not even asking them to clean it off and put it in the dishwasher.

THAT would be to much to expect.

But for the love of all that is holy...scrap the peanut butter (or mayo or ketchup or whatever condiment you use) back into the jar.

Jeez.

Nailed It!

Owen's been playing a game emojipop on the ipad.  It's like pictionary.

With a twisted sense of humor.

He solved this immediately in less than a minute.

"Everyone knows that boogers are nose poop.  It's logical."

I guess you have to think like a boy.

Stupid Payback

via text to Shane:

Me:  Your drawers are a disaster.  I thought you said that you cleaned them out.

Him:  I did clean them out.

Me:  No you didn't.  It's sweat pants and other clothes you haven't worn in a year.

Him:  Yep.  Long pants and the such.

Me:  Yep.  All jumbled up and wrinkled.

Him:  Just the way I like them.

Me:  MEH.

The Saga of the Backpack

It's a bittersweet moment for our family.

The last weekend of summer vacation before the kids go back to school.

Bitter for them.  Sweet for me baby!  LOL!

We have gotten school supplies, been assigned teachers and visited the kids schools to meet those teachers.  Time to get the backpacks ready for the first day of class.

Well.  Time to think about getting the kids backpacks ready for school.  I'm quite certain that even though I have the best of intentions, I will put it off until Monday night to do it.

Because I stink.  LOL!

But at least I'm keeping it real.

So I go to find Owen's backpack.  It was right where he left it the last day of school.  On his floor beside his bed.

Still packed with everything from school.  Including his caped Superman socks.  As you can imagine, they were smelly.  Meh.

I did bring the backpack downstairs though.  So that's something.  I'm so on top of things!

As you can see tho, it's still not unpacked.  Little tiny baby steps, people!

Shane's backpack, of course, was still packed as well and was laying beside his desk...right where he left it on the last day of school.

But his is now unpacked AND cleaned out.  Because I had a come to Jesus meeting with him and Owen on Thursday about taking responsibility for their things and chores.  And it must have sunk in because when I got up on Friday at 8 am, he was showered and dressed and was cleaning out his school instrument.  And his backpack.

And if you're impressed with him, he was just scared.  LOL!

But before you send him a congratulations note, please observe that his backpack is still sitting on the sofa where he cleaned it out...two days later.

Little tiny baby steps, people.

And the few readers of my blog may remember the battle that I had with Shane over cleaning out his backpack after last school year.  Unfortunately, the backpack struggle isn't a new one for our family.

But I thought that I won that battle.

Thought.

Until I looked in his very messy closet and saw the offending backpack that is apparently still not cleaned out.  FROM JUNE 17, 2011.

And ironically enough, that pink bag that it sits upon is from our trip to Pawleys Island this summer.  Still packed.  And since it's sitting on top of that pink bag, I KNOW that he has seen and touched the backpack.  He had to in order to put it on top of the pink bag.  Otherwise, that pink bag would be on top of the backpack.

Little stinker.

You know.  I'm not going to clean it out.  Ha.  I win!

On the day of his graduation from high school, and probably college, you're going to read a blog post with a new picture of that stupid backpack...still packed up.

And so the saga of the backpack continues.  And I have a feeling that this won't be the last time you read about a stupid backpack.  Meh.

Boys.  Sheesh.

Didn't Anticipate That!

I took a shower in the boys bathroom the other day only to discover they didn't have any soap in it.

So I did what any good mom would do and left them a reminder note in their shower.

Well. That's one thing I never anticipated having to do as a parent.

Sheesh.  Nasty boys.

Destructo Boys :/

 Boys are destructive.  Period.

Girls are drama.

But boys are destructive and will attempt to destroy everything in their path.

Including each other.

But that's a different post.  ;)

Instead, this post is about how truly destructive these two little monsters have been lately.

First, they came into the house the other day to confess that they were using matches to start fires.

After I yelled at them for a good fifteen minutes, I asked them how they intended to stop a fire if they actually started one.

According to Shane, they had a can of air freshener to spray on it to extinguish the fire.

Really?  Seriously?

Gah.

The only reason that they confessed is because their friend's four year old sister saw them doing it and went and told on them to her mom.  And her mom was on her way over to tell me.

But the real question is why a four year old knew that was bad when they didn't?

Then yesterday, Owen had two friends over playing football in the front yard.  I was cooking dinner and I heard a big thunk so I went outside to see what was going on.

They were throwing rocks at the house.  TRYING TO HIT THE WINDOWS.

:-|

Gah.

And that was a 10 minute lecture about WHY they shouldn't try and HIT my windows WITH ROCKS.

:-|

So the good news is that I won't have teenage girl drama.

:)

The bad news is that all of my stuff will be destroyed before they grow up and move out.

:-|

Boys.  Sheesh.

A Real WTF Moment

Shane and Owen are both home sick from school today so I took the opportunity to straighten up the house.  And one of the biggest chores (and unknowns) is the boys basement.  I never know what I'm going up against, or what I'm going to find, when I go downstairs.

So I almost made it through cleaning the basement without any major surprises.  Just the usual messes that a mom with two boys (three if you count Ken) would find.

I thought I was done.  Until I turned around and saw a coffee cup sitting on top of a cabinet that needs to be moved.

I picked it up and looked into it.

And it looked like pee.

And it smelled like pee.

That's because it was pee.

A.  Cup.  Of.  Pee.

Wow.  What we have here folks is a true, bonafide WTF moment.

Although my mom hates that word, I think that even she would have said it had she have found a coffee cup with pee in it sitting on top of a cabinet.

The guilty party confessed straight away.  But mostly because his brother cracked up laughing.  Apparently the guilty party was on top of the cabinet when it hit him that he had to pee.

So instead of getting down and going to the bathroom (another WTF?), he had his brother get him a cup to pee in.

Because he had no time to get down.

And then they both left it down there for three days.

For the housekeeper to clean up.  :-|

So yeah.  A real, true WTF moment.  And that's all I got to say about that.

Well.  That.  And.  Boys.  Sheesh.
