Kicking It Old School

My friend is driving her daughter's car while she's looking for a new car.  The other day when I was with her, she said she needed to make a phone call and reached into the console and picked up her car phone.

Check it out.  The phone has a cord.  LOL!

Talk about kicking it old school.  :D

The 1990's called and they want their cell phone back.  Teehee

Loves to Bake...Not

I made brownies for my friend a while back and she recently returned the container to me.  With Oreo cookies in it.

I asked her what the deal was with the Oreo cookies.

She responded that she didn't want to return the container empty and she doesn't bake (emphasis on DOESN'T) and she loves Oreos so that's what I was getting.  LOL!

Then I asked if they were double stuffed.

She said no.  Single.

Like who would ever choose a single stuffed Oreo over a double stuffed Oreo?  That's crazy talk!

She's weird.

But she's funny.

And I will keep her!

The Oreos were gone in less than 24 hours so I guess she was right about single stuffed Oreos but please don 't tell her that she was right about that.

I don't want to listen to it.  LOL!

Nailed It!

I had a few friends over to make cookies.  We made some really cute ones!

I'm sure that Leslie didn't mind decorating the cookies since she's decorates cakes for a living. Yes I took your picture.  So there!

Hula girl!

Natalie is such a free spirit.  She made the candy cane cookies as directed for about two minutes and then did her own thing.  :p

So my friends are a little warped.  That's why I love them.  ;)

It wasn't all about cookies though.  Donna is an excellent baker and makes the best peanut butter brittle.  Using fresh "row" peanuts from her mom's recipe.  :p  (Her mother is Asian and wrote "row" instead of "raw" on the recipe.  I love that!

And she's trying to teach her daughter Natalie how to make it.

Leslie's cookie.  A smile, of course!  :)

Leslie's daughter Nicole got busy making the marshmellow snowmen cookies.

This is what we were going for.  Nailed it, don't you think?  :p

Proud of their Asian heritage.  LOL!

What are you going to do with leftover Santa dough?  Make mice.  And their mice poopies, of course.  (I did say that my friends are a little off, right?!)

I guess Leslie was tired of the chitter chatter because she didn't give this one a mouth.  Shut your pie hole!

While the girls were busy making cookies, the boys, along with Leslie's 14 year old son Tony, decided to jump on the trampoline.  Being the good boy that he is, Tony took his shoes off before he got on.

His very, very large shoes, I might add!  I was thinking that he probably didn't need to get red ones.  They kinda stand out all on their own.  Teehee

It was such a fun day of cookie decorating with my friends.  :)

Congratulations, Melly!

My sweet "teenage" babysitter Melissa graduated from college.

Yes.  College.

And yes.  That makes her mother and father old.

Not me.  ;)

Congratulations, Melly!

Owen is equally happy for you.

Even at 8, he knows what it's all about.  I wonder if she has accepted it yet.

The Considerate Thing to Do

I have said it a million times.  I love comic strips.  I'm pretty sure that the illustrators are spying on me because some of them hit so close to home it's ridiculous.

So I give you today...don't call me...before you text and find out if it's okay to do so...

Starring Jeremy as June.  Oh yeah girl.  You know it it's true!

I would NEVER call June without texting her first.  And if she *calls* me...I immediately answer because I *know* it's an emergency!  No doubt about that.  Cause she always texts me first and asks if it's okay to call.

Cause that's the considerate thing to do and she's considerate like that.  ;)

June, this blog is dedicated to you!

The SUPER Mable!

It's a bird!

It's a plane!

No! It's a SUPER Mable!

Mama say what???

It's a Super Mable. You know. A couch that can be pulled behind a boat on a lake. Geez. You didn't know that? I *thought* everyone did!

Okay. I had no idea what a Mable was either, much less a Super Mable, before a visit to the lake with our friends Jodi, Judd and their two year old JJ. And now I do. And too so shall you!

It's all good riding with a 2 year old. Man. That's the way to do it. Such a smooth ride you could have a cocktail out there while you're cruising along!

And that ride with the two year old (who is precious cargo) lulls you into a false sense of security.

And then you give the thumbs up as if to say "is that all you got?"

Hey y'all! Watch this!

Jodi did a pretty good job of whipping them around. And me too. :-|

Dear God! Is it over yet?!

For the record, Owen and I were the first victims of the Super Mable. Yep. We went a$$ over tea kettle off the back of it. Woo-Hoo! (After 7, you are apparently not precious cargo!)

So everyone took turns riding on the Super Mable. And Jodi and Judd took turns whipping us around. I mean driving the boat.

Unfortunately for Shane, Owen and Ken, Judd didn't forget that they made fun of his short life jacket.

Even though he warned them.

And they foolishly got back onto the Super Mable with him driving. After making fun of him. (GRANDPARENT WARNING: DON'T WATCH THIS AND IF YOU DO...BE SURE TO WATCH THE NEXT VIDEO!)

The fall obviously didn't traumatize him.

So he got back in the saddle. Again. I won't tell you how the last ride went but it ended with us searching for one of Ken's boat shoes that he was wearing before he got thrown off the Stupid Mable.

Judd did warn them not to make fun of him. :D

Ah. Good times. Good times. :-)

PS - If anyone finds Ken's water shoe, please return it to us, okay?

The City Mouse and The Country Mouse

We've all heard the story. The city mouse goes to visit his cousin in the country and an education into how the other half lives commences. Then the country mouse visits the city mouse and an education into how the other half lives commences.

I'm not a mouse but I do have a friend who lives in the city. The real city. As in New York City. And he's like the city mouse. And I'm like the country mouse.

He is Ken's friend too and we went to dinner with him a few years ago when we were in the city to see The Police at Madison Square Garden. The first thing he said was "wow...you sure are southern." LOL.

I didn't realize my accent was so pronounced but I guess it is. Especially to a New Yorker I suppose.

So...anyway...about a year later, he came to Fredericksburg for a few days on vacation and lived the life of the country mouse for a few days. I took him to my favorite luncheon counter/pharmacy, Goolricks, for lunch where you can still sit at the counter and order lunch. Nothing fancy mind you. Grilled cheese, hot dogs, soup...and a milk shake or cherry soda. Made the old skool way.

And of course...when you're in a small city, you're bound to run into someone you know, which we did and then he got to meet my best friend and her youngest son. That sealed it for him. If he didn't think I was the country mouse before, he definitely thought I was then. ;)

Because that's the way it goes in the "country." And Mike was calling it Fredneck by the time he left too but I think that he enjoyed the slower pace for at least a few days. I'm not sure that he realized folks still lived this way.

So, when we were in NYC for Easter, he came and had breakfast with us and took us into his world.

His crazy, kooky world of New York City where anything goes.

And he's the person that you want to be with in that crazy, kooky world because he's tall and he keeps up with you when you get dizzy from all the people. He's easy to find in a crowd too. Much easier than Ken, Shane or Owen. He's an awesome co-pilot for sure!

So, we took a little stroll down 5th Avenue to see the Easter Parade. Which really wasn't a parade at all. It was rather a gathering of people in the "finest" bonnets.

Or wackiest costumes they could find or just bizarre sightings that make you go "hum."

I just thought that the contrast between the secular world and the religious world was too much not to snap the picture.

And, of course, the Easter Bunny had to be there.

Who knew that the Easter Bunny had a family or attended St. Peters church? He was waiting for the service.

Neither Mike nor I knew who this woman was but she was obviously someone who was someone. If you know who she is, let me know.

I really could have stayed there all day taking pictures and I kept drifting off from everyone but Mike was awesome about keeping up with me. And Ken. And Shane. And Owen. Somehow. Because there was tons of people there. All while he was shooting video too. He's a true city mouse!

So, thanks to Mike for showing the country mouse the city. You are an awesome tourguide!

And, as your reward, Shane is bestowing a new avatar for you as he promised. Enjoy! :p
