Mahna Mahna

Having a bad day? Just feeling blah? Well, sit back, watch these muppet videos and prepare to smile. These are the way cartoons and children's shows should be.

Go ahead and watch them again, show your grandchildren or children if you feel the need to be validated in watching them. Go ahead. I give you permission.

I will warn you that you will want to go around singing mahna mahna for the rest of the day. :)

This is another version of it.

Emily Post Would Be Mortified

Evidentially, we have been teaching all the wrong proper manners at the dinner table. Instead of telling our kids to put all four chair legs on the floor or to not chew like a cow, what we *should* be telling kids to keep their feet off of the table.

Isn't anyone raising these children with manners? Emily Post would be mortified.

Exhibit 1: Shane at about a year and a half old.

Exhibit 2: Owen at the same age. Shane must have given him some lessons.

Exhibit 3: Then Mary Mayken comes along and picks up right where Owen left off.

Well, I thought it would be funny to do it too. That was a bad idea. It just reminded me that 1) I'm not so young anymore because I could barely get my leg on the table and 2) I should be teaching them to put the legs down on their chairs and not chew like a cow.

But, but...being an adult is no fun. :*(

What's Wrong With This Picture?

I've said it before and I'll say it again. I love to take pictures. Sometimes I take decent pictures. And other times, even though I have good intentions, I don't think through the shot and it just turns out all wrong.

Take this picture for example.

My intent was to get a picture of the "W" along with the hitter. I "thought" it was a good picture. Until I started really looking at it.

The eye wants to continue moving with the batter and the ball that he is going to hopefully hit, which unfortunately keeps you moving right out of the picture.

Take this picture for another example.

See how the tractor is closer to the edge of the picture and the tractor appears like it's leaving the picture. I should have moved the tractor to the right in the picture so that your eye doesn't leave the picture.

It's probably easier to position the picture differently than to have the tractor painted facing the other direction! If the tractor were facing the fence, and a little to the left, the picture would have been fine. It's too bad. Because I love the tractor sign. I just don't like how it's positioned in the picture.

In order to have a good picture, your subject should be facing the inside of the picture so that it doesn't make your eye want to leave the picture.

Take this picture for example.

See how the bird is positioned facing the center of the photo? That makes your eye want to stay in the photo. Plus, your eye follows the line of the branch that the bird is standing on. Additionally, the bird is positioned in the center of 1/3 of the picture.

That's where you want your subject to be positioned. Imagine a tic-tac-toe board. You want your subject on the grid of one of the 1/3's. Make sense?

The bird picture would be completely different if the bird were on the right side of the picture. It wouldn't be as pleasing to the eye.

Well, all this is true except when you're taking portraits. Then you want your subject dead center. Because that's what's important.

But, sometimes, a photo's just a photo. And I take lots of those too. That's what's good about a digital camera with a big memory card. Snap, snap, snap and delete, delete, delete. Sometimes you end up with a photo like the batter and others (less times than more), you end up with the bird photo.

A Girl's Gotta Have Her Shoes...

Apparently the desire for shoes starts early for some girls. I tried to take them away from Mary Mayken but she was having none of that. Until I asked her if she wanted a cookie.

And, she dropped them like a hot potato, running towards the kitchen table where her booster seat was. She kept yelling "cookie" over and over.

Apparently, the desire for cookies starts early for some girls too. LOL.

American Graffiti

Graffiti.

You see it all around. On bridges, on subways, on walls. Most of the time I think that it's an eyesore. Although, I do appreciate the artistry that goes into making it. Granted, it's not my kind of art, but it does take talent to do it.

Walking around Baltimore, the boys and I passed the graffiti below. I don't know if it was street art or if someone was commissioned to paint it but I was drawn to it. It is just so simple.

I love the statements. I love the simplicity. I didn't want to forget it.

I hope that you appreciate it and enjoy it as much as I did. It makes me smile!
